The Baby who taught me so much about life.

This month is Women's History Month.

To celebrate with the amazing women in my world...

I will like to introduce the newest and highlight few of the things she has taught me about life. I have to admit with much admiration that she has probably taught me more than I can teach her about life.

She was born on the 14th of December, 2010. She choose to come in the cold weather of winter to warm our hearts and bring sunlight to our world. What a nice timing. As a good dad I was there to give her a grand welcome to this magnificent world.

You want to know what she taught me?

1. When your diaper is wet, cry: She knew instinctively what most adult don't know. She knows her rights -- a clean diaper and a warm environment. When one of these rights is compromised, in any way, she will cry and scream UNTIL someone does something about the infringement on her right. Justifiably so.

Even though you have a right that is legally yours if you dont demand and enforce it, you might go through life and never enjoy the benefits of those rights

She doesn't subscribe to the notion of "suffering and smiling." If the diaper is wet and she is uncomfortable. She wont just talk about it. She will act and act loud by crying.

I seem to hear her give an adapted speech by MLK:
"It would be fatal for my dad and mom to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of Mayowa. This Winter of the Mayowa's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of clean diaper."

She will say all these in a cry- format, of Course!

She will knock the door of your heart and ear until you open the door and her demand is granted.

2. When you are hungry for more, do whatever it takes to be filled: When she is hungry. She will do whatever it takes (WIT) to get filled. I have learned from her to make sure that when I am hungry for more-- more money, more information about a particular line of what I do for a living, or whatever I am hungry for. I should do whatever it takes. For Mayowa, WIT is to cry. If nobody does something about it. She cries louder.

Maybe we can all learn from her...

Those who are persistent will always be filled with more.

I don't know if it has anything to do with Abraham Lincoln's quote:

“Things may come to those who wait...but only the things left by those who hustle.

"Hustle" here, I think means those who take action and demand to be filled with more.

3. Smile even though your heart in aching: Even when she is crying and I manage to catch her attention and make a particular sound that always tickle her. Even in the midst of her pain and discomfort, she always find a way to give a feign smile but she wont let that distract her for too long before she continues with her demands.

That taught me that even though your heart is aching. Learn to smile-- Smell the rose around you and don't be blinded by the tears of your demand.

There is always something you can smile about.

Thanks Mayowa and happy first Women's Month. Many more to come... Same to all the women in my world, from her mom to my mom. Thanks for all the sacrifice you have made for me( teary eyes)
